ACADEMY SOLOISTS ENSEMBLE AT WIGMORE HALL

Anthony Marwood director/violin
STRAUSS arr RUDOLPH LEOPOLD Metamorphosen
SCHUBERT Octet in F, D 803

Academy students perform with international violinist Anthony Marwood in the most profound instrumental work from Strauss’ late period, the Metamorphosen of 1945 in an arrangement for string septet. Some say this dark, brooding work was inspired by the destruction of Munich, while recent research shows that the source was actually Goethe, more specifically his poem Niemand wird sich selber kennen.
This is paired with Schubert’s Octet of 1824 – his most substantial single chamber composition.
